Poetry by Heart and #NLD2014

Happy Sunday afternoon, blog followers, we hope you are out enjoying the marvellous sunshine in between this rain. Apologies for the delay on this blog post we have had some technical hitches but hopefully are on the road to blog-recovery!

On National Libraries Day (Saturday 8th February) we celebrated here at Jubilee with the County Final of Poetry By Heart. Six young people between Years 10-13 recited poetry aloud and fought it out for an all-expenses-paid weekend in London for the Regional and National finals in March, where they will perform at the National Portrait Gallery!

After an exciting morning of workshops, in which the performers got to work with our MC and well-known Brighton poet who runs poetry night “Hammer and Tongue” – Rosy Carrick! (follow Rosie on Twitter – @rosycarrick)

During the competition we held a Twitter competiton, where we invited the audience to be the 5th Judge and get their feedback on the big screen at the front. By tweeting @BHlibraries and following us, or by writing their tweet (in analogue style!) on a piece of paper, they were in with a chance of winning a brand new Kobo eReader which you can download eBooks and eAudiobooks FOR FREE from the Libraries eBook website, Overdrive

We whittled down the fullest and most constructive feedback to:

Thank you very much to everyone who came along to support the young people and most of all to the competitors themselves!

Best of luck at the Finals, Jasmina 🙂
