Deep in the bowels of Library HQ, a cunning plan has been hatched to open libraries for longer, without the need for staff! Hi-tech automated door entry systems, enhanced library cards, security monitors, live audio feeds and help available at the other end of a telephone, and it’s all for you, yes, you lucky people can now get access to your library even when it’s closed! This my friends, as HG Wells put it, is ‘The shape of things to come’…
To join, bring photo ID and proof of address to Portslade or Woodingdean Library (when it’s actually open and staffed). Children and young people under the age of 18 will be able to enter the library during Libraries Extra if accompanied by an adult member of Libraries Extra.
So far, Libraries Extra is running as a pilot at two branches, Portslade and Woodingdean, the ‘Extra’ times are –
- Monday 2pm to 7pm,
- Thursday 9am to 7pm
- Friday 2pm to 5pm
- Tuesday 9am to 7pm
- Wednesday 9am to 5pm
- Friday 9am to 5pm
Woodingdean Library will only be available until 1pm on the following Wednesdays in 2015: 14th October, 11th November, 9th December. This is due to a regular paid booking of the library space.
Apart from that, it’s all yours! Enjoy!
